Welcome Morten!
Morten Tysse is recently employed as PhD student in computational catalysis and molecular design. He just finished his MSc-degree in nanotechnology at the University of Bergen, where he in the atomic physics group researched quantum and relativistic effects in hydrogen. The purpose of his PhD is to determine reaction mechanisms in reduction processes of carbon dioxide.
Welcome Christian!
Say hello to Stian!

Velkomen Beate!
Welcome Andrea!
Andrea Estefania Carpinteyro Diaz is a research fellow in the natural product group working with the isolation of bioactive natural products from unique plant sources and assessment of anti-cancer and phototoxic activity having as supervisors Professors Torgils Fossen and Lars Herfindal. Her background is one of a biochemical engineer with a master degree in food science from Mexico and a master degree in chemistry from UiB (2017).
Welcome Neann!
Neann Mathai is a PhD student in Cheminformatics under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Johannes Kirchmair. Neann has a MSc in Computer Science (focused on computational glycobiology and vaccine development) and a BSc in Computer Science and Chemistry, both from the University of Cape Town, South Africa. She also spent an extended period of time in the United States where, amongst others, she worked on the statistical analysis of public health, epidemiological, and program management data and the development of health informatics tools for large multi-national organizations. Her research at UiB will focus on the development and validation of target predictions methods.
Takk til Aase!
In the lunch seminar last Friday, colleagues at the Chemistry department joined to honour and thank Aase for her contributions to the department and to each and one of us, on the occasion that she will go into retirement from the end of the month. Aase Methlie has taken care of economy tasks at the Chemistry department in the best possible manner and for over 16 years. She first joined us in April 2002 and remained a trusted coworker also after the restructuring into a faculty economy section in September last year. (Photo: Cecilie)
Instituttmarkering for Leiv
Nathalie receives the prestigious Loew Lectureship Award
At the biannual President’s Meeting in ISQBP next week, Dr. Nathalie Reuter, as of July 1 Professor at the Chemistry department, will receive the Loew Lectureship Award! The International Society of Quantum Biology and Pharmacology (ISQBP) was founded by Professor Per-Olov Löwdin, who also served as the society’s first president. The eleventh President was Gilda H. Loew, in honour of whom the Loew Lectureship Award was established in 2004, and the 23rd President was this years recipient of said Award, namely Nathalie.
In between, the list of former ISQBP Presidents include several Nobel prize laureates and other highly regarded scientists. We congratulate Nathalie on receiving the Loew Award in recognition of her high standing in a very competitive field of research!
In passing, it may be noted that the referred-to Professor Löwdin is also accredited with coining the research field Quantum Chemistry. He was the supervisor of Professor Rolf Manne, who in turn established this research field in Bergen, at the Chemistry department. It does make some sense that Nathalie receives the Loew Award and joins the Chemistry department at the same time!
