Meld deg på Landsmøtet i kjemi!
Norsk Kjemisk Selskap (NKS) inviterer alle interesserte til spennende kjemi-dager på Lillestrøm 16.-18. oktober.
Det 21. Landsmøte i Kjemi arrangeres i forbindelse med LAB ’18 på Norges Varemesse. Landsmøtet går over tre dager, med temaer innen analytisk kjemi, makromolekyl- og kolloidkjemi, organisk kjemi, kvantekjemi og modellering, uorganisk kjemi og materialkjemi, matkjemi, kjemiens historie, katalyse, kjemometri samt kjemiundervisning.
NKS runder 125 år i år og dette markeres med et omfattende plenarprogram med inviterte foredragsholdere. Industry Lecture og foredrag ved årets Guldberg-Waage medaljør inngår også i plenarprogrammet. Det vil bli en felles Bankett for deltakerne på kvelder 16. oktober.

Her background is one of a biochemical engineer with a master degree in food science from Mexico and a master degree in chemistry from UiB (2017).
She also spent an extended period of time in the United States where, amongst others, she worked on the statistical analysis of public health, epidemiological, and program management data and the development of health informatics tools for large multi-national organizations. Her research at UiB will focus on the development and validation of target predictions methods.
In the lunch seminar last Friday, colleagues at the Chemistry department joined to honour and thank Aase for her contributions to the department and to each and one of us, on the occasion that she will go into retirement from the end of the month. Aase Methlie has taken care of economy tasks at the Chemistry department in the best possible manner and for over 16 years. She first joined us in April 2002 and remained a trusted coworker also after the restructuring into a faculty economy section in September last year. (Photo: Cecilie)
A great many students have been given a first introduction to important safety procedures and first aid. The HSE course demonstrates another of the qualities of our department: the ability to pitch in when needed – this course results from the effort of many people!
Så er 9. juli her og vår kjære kollega professor Leiv Kr. Sydnes fyller 70 år! Vi gratulerer så mykje med dagen, vonar og reknar med at dagen blir brukt i godt festleg lag, og viser ellers til fyldig 
Ei rekke talarar var i aksjon, før Leiv sjølv gav sin versjon av livet sitt som kjemikar. Vi ser fram til fortsatt innsats frå Leiv som professor emeritus ved Kjemisk institutt!

Some 700 freshly minted engineers and economists presented their bachelor projects, about 270 in total, by way of posters, stands and enthusiasm. 
The picture shows the award-winning «best stand in show», featuring extraction and quantitative analysis of parabenes in on-campus-brewed beer. Focussing on the chemical and biochemical engineers, lots of talent was evident — hopefully more than a few of them show up as MSc-students in our departement over the summer? EXPO is an annual event — something to consider visiting next June?
