Norsk kjemisk selskap-faggruppe for analytisk kjemi (NKS-FAK) inviterer til seminar på UiB 14. september om Klima- og miljøanalyser. Programmet inneholder 9 foredrag som dekker grunnleggende temaer innen analytisk kjemi som for eksempel god veieteknikk og kvalitetssikring, med problemstillinger fra nanopartikler, algegifter, paleoklima og luft/jord/vann. Analyse av både uorganiske og organiske parametere vil behandles. 6 firmaer vil ha utstilling og der vil være god anledning til å diskutere ulike problemstillinger med dem. Carbon capture technologies are expected to play an important contribution in the efforts to reduce the environmental impact of the use of fossil fuels. One approach to remove carbon dioxide from gas mixtures is its adsorption on nanoporous materials, such as zeolites and metal-organic frameworks. 
Among the latter, the CPO-27 series of compounds has been widely investigated because of its extraordinary properties for capturing carbon dioxide. Now, using the state-of-the-art equipment available at the Swiss-Norwegian Beamlines (SNBL) at the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF), Pascal Dietzel and his team from have investigated with unprecedented time resolution how carbon dioxide is incorporated into the crystal structure of the host framework. Mange ansatte har i reisesammenheng benyttet UiB’s avtale med Diners kredittkort. Denne avtalen er nå avsluttet. Til erstatning kan faste og midlertidig ansatte ved UiB søke om kredittkortet EuroCard. 
Dette er et kredittkort med firmaansvar som utstedes i den ansattes navn. Kortet benyttes kun til reiserelaterte utgifter i jobbsammenheng og skal altså ikke brukes til private kjøp. Det beste med hele avtalen er at man ikke lenger trenger å søke om forskudd, for fristen for å betale regningen er så lang at man får bestilt billigbilletter i god tid i forveien. Faktura sendes til og betales av kortinnehaver. Mer informasjon finner du her.
Milan Chhaganlal has accepted a temporary position as engineer at our department, with instrumentation for chromatography as his main responsibility. Milan holds an MSc degree from EMQAL (European Masters in Quality in Analytical Laboratories) and UiB since 2012. He also has a BSc degree in technical chemistry from the University of Lisboa, his home city. Also of interest, Milan has had temporary employment at TCM-Mongstad.
Kjære alle sammen, Kjemisk institutt vil gjennomføre et heldags HMS-møte onsdag 21. juni 2017, kl 09:00-14:00. Møtet er obligatorisk for alle ansatte på instituttet.
Videre planlegges det sosialt samvær om kvelden (fra kl 1900) med bespisning!
Dear all, The Department of Chemistry will organize a full-day HSE meeting on June 21, from 09:00-14:00. Noteworthy, the meeting is mandatory for all employees. Additionally, there are plans in progress
for a social gathering including dining, in the afternoon from 7 pm!
A carefully selected group from our local chemistry student union, KFU, recently went on a study trip to NTNU (Trondheim) to get new ideas on how to develop their activities to the benefit of both bachelor and master students at the chemistry department. As the picture clearly shows and as they confirmed in the most recent Thursday lunch seminar, they were well received and got loads of inspiration and good ideas! The chemistry department would like to cheer on and support this important work and we all look forward to the new ideas turning into new activities!
Husket alt før Påskeferien?
Påsken er like rundt hjørnet, og uavhengig av om du har tenkt å tilbringe den på fjellet i snøen, i et (helt sikkert) solfylt Bergen, eller har mer perifere planer, så er det én ting du må gjøre med én gang: Registrere ferien din i PAGA. Å registrere ferien er obligatorisk, og generelt skal all ferie tas ut hvert år. Ikke helt sikker på nøyaktig når du vil ta ferie? Easter vacation – Ready to go?
Easter is soon upon us, and whether you are planning on finding snow in the mountains, spending all of it in sunny Bergen or making other arrangements, there is one thing you have to do right away: Register your vacation in PAGA. It is a requirement that everyone registers their holiday, and it is the general rule that all vacation days has to be taken within the year. Not sure when you’ll be going? Ny stipendiat tilknyttet Kjemisk institutt.
Illimar Rekand har mastergrad i kjemi fra UiB i 2016. Han ansettes som stipendiat finansiert av MOFA med arbeidssted ved Institutt for biomedisin og Kjemisk institutt. Illimar blir tilknyttet prosjektet Chartering chemical space of riboswitch ligands – towards future antibiotics, og skal jobbe med screening og organisk syntese. Ruth Brenk (Biomedisin) og Bengt Erik Haug er veiledere.
